This character is not a new comer to the horror genre and she seems to be a close relative of kuchisake onna [probably because of the carved sides of her lips] but let me tell you one thing...  --> She's awesome.

Yes. But she had me confused for the first few parts of the movie. I mean... what could she possibly gain from killing cinema workers who know nothing about her plight? Ghosts do things for a reason, right?

Let's move back to her past... 

Shomba used to be an actress who played the role of a very old lady [Shomba]. Her real name wasn't revealed all through the movie (I think...)

Shomba is a weirdo who gouged children's eyes out. Why the old lady does this is unstated (probably because the movie in the movie wasn't the main attraction). Furthermore, she kept the kids alive even if they're already blind and it's a bit peculiar. She seems to be kind to them since she feeds them and all... but after the eye-gouging part, they all act like her minions. Eventually, the villagers find her and hang her.

Unfortunately, during the shooting of the last scene, the actress' safety constraints weakened due to the number of times they had to re-shoot the hanging and she ended up getting hanged for real.

Now... anyone who watches her dying moments will be chased around by her vengeful spirit. And once she gets a hold of you...

She'll gouge your eyes out and you'd automatically become a cast in her little movie.
